Oxford Cathedral
Palm Sunday Oxford – with Said Matins, following the traditional 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Holy Communion is offered, again using the reverent language of the 1662 Prayer Book.
A Choral Eucharist
Marking the solemn feast of Palm Sunday. It includes a procession with a donkey, recalling Christ’s entry into Jerusalem amid waving palms and shouted Hosannas. The Lassus Passion according to St Luke will be sung, bringing the Gospel narrative vividly and reverently alive. Choral works include Weelkes’ “Hosanna to the Son of David” and Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G Minor. Also featured are Vaughan Williams’ “O taste and see” and Bach’s organ piece “Valet will ich dir geben.” Worshippers are asked to gather in the Memorial Garden at the St Aldates entrance to Christ Church Meadows.
A Choral Evensong begins,
Offering prayerful reflection with rich music and a theological sermon. The preacher is The Revd Dr Zachary Guiliano, bringing insight and spiritual depth to the evening gathering. The music includes Byrd’s “Ne irascaris, Domine” and his Responses, alongside Leighton’s majestic Second Service setting.
Bach’s “Herzlich tut mich verlangen” (BWV 727) completes the day’s worship with a meditative organ postlude.
