Palm Sunday Little Billing – This Sunday is Palm Sunday, which marks the start of Holy Week. It is when we remember again the events leading up to Jesus’ death. These include Jesus’ last supper with his disciples and His betrayal by a trusted friend. It also includes His arrest, His trial and the hands of Pontious Pilate, and finally His crucifixion. It would be terrible for any person to go through these things, let alone the Son of God. Yet, Jesus chose to go through them willingly. In Luke chapter 9 we read. As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem (Luke 9v51) and with determination, he headed toward his fate in Jerusalem, just as we’re preparing for the Palm Sunday service at Little Billing.

Jesus knows

That his ultimate destination is heaven – to go back to the Father where he will be enthroned as His King. Yet, he knows that He must go there via Jerusalem. Before the glory of His resurrection and ascension, He must first suffer the agony of the cross. But why? It is so that through His suffering he might open the gate of heaven for us. Therefore, through Him we might all one day go there. This Holy Week, let us give thanks again for Jesus and for all that he has done for us, as we commemorate it during the Palm Sunday service at Little Billing.
