The Liturgy of Good Friday is a deeply solemn service marking Christ’s crucifixion with reverence, silence, and reflection. Good Friday in Southwell is especially revered for this tradition. Held on Good Friday Southwell, 18 April at 1.30pm, it concludes the sacred tradition of the Three Hours’ devotion. The service unfolds in a stripped, bare Minster, highlighting the raw sorrow and solemnity of the crucifixion event. Through music, readings, prayer, and silence, we are drawn into Christ’s suffering in an intimate and heartfelt way.

It culminates

In the sharing of Holy Communion, taken together at the foot of the Cross with reverent stillness during Good Friday Southwell. Participants are invited to join this moving liturgy from home via a live-stream starting at 1.30pm that day. You may choose to stand, sit, or kneel as you would in church, with guidance in the service order. Singing and speaking along with the congregation is welcomed and encouraged during the shared parts of worship.

The service will be available to view online without needing to sign in or register in any way. If you miss the live stream, a recorded version will remain online for one week following the original broadcast.
