Easter Sunday Durham – The Easter Vigil, Dawn Eucharist with Baptism and Confirmation. Event date and start time. Sunday 20 April 2025. Easter Sunday marks the day when Jesus rose again.At the 5am service beginning in the cloister garth. We make the journey from darkness into light as the sun rises. Hear the ancient proclamation of Easter, the Exsultet. As we celebrate Christ’s victory over death with music and prayer. We also affirm our faith and witness baptisms and confirmations.

The celebrations continue throughout the day with Matins, Sung Eucharist and Evensong. We’re delighted to welcome our guest preacher across our Easter services. Revd Dr Kate Bruce, an RAF chaplain based at Brize Norton. Kate was previously a chaplain and Deputy Warden at St John’s College Durham. Who is co-author of two books on women in the Bible called ‘Out of the Shadows’. Kate will be preaching on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Festal Eucharist on Easter Day.
